Friday, January 16th is Spirit Day at Washington Elementary! Fourth Grade won the Purple Pride Challenge, and has selected a theme for the all-school Spirit Day.... "Students Dress Like a Teacher and Teachers Dress Like a Student!"
We hope we see you all tonight at Washington's Fall Ball! 6:00-8:00 pm
Fond du Lac Community Center, Sawyer Center, and Brookston Center will all be closed on 9/30.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is a reminder that school breakfast and lunch remain FREE for all students in Minnesota.
The only change this year is our food service platform. Any balances previously in PayPams have been transferred to Infinite Campus.
We also encourage families to complete the Educational Benefits Application available in the Parent Portal. Even though meals are free, submitting this application may qualify your family for waived or reduced fees for things like sports, field trips, and other school activities/fees.
Please note that any existing funds in your student’s account can be used for à la carte items or to purchase a second meal.
Cloquet Public Schools last day of school will be Friday, May 30th! Please note the early dismissal times per building. Have a fantastic summer break and enjoy your well-deserved time off!
Cloquet Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 2nd, due to the Winter Storm watch that has been issued for our area.
Reminder: Conferences are this week (and there will be no EXCEL after school programming this week)
Cloquet Public Schools will have a 2-hour late start due to cold temperatures tomorrow Tuesday, February 18th!
Kids Heart Challenge is tomorrow - Friday, February 14!
Cloquet Public Schools will have a 2-hour late start due to cold temperatures tomorrow Tuesday, January 21st!
Forecasted temperatures for the next few days continue to be bitterly cold. We ask that everyone take extra care to ensure students are well prepared for the elements.
A quick reminder to families that there is no school for students on Monday, January 20th. Also, we are expecting bitterly cold temperatures across the region when students return next week. Please make sure students are properly dressed for the elements when school resumes!
The Pizza Pick Up is TODAY! 3:00-7:00 by Washington Door 1. Thanks!
There is a chance of significant snowfall tomorrow during the day. In the likely event we have school, please know that we trust our parents to make the best decision regarding the safety of their children. If you feel the conditions at your home are unsafe for your student to attend school, we will excuse the absence.
There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow -- Friday, December 6th! It’s a professional day for staff. Enjoy your long weekend!
Cloquet Families,
We’re always looking for individuals who may have an interest in subbing in our schools as teachers or paraprofessionals. If you have some flexibility in your weekly calendar, it can be a great way to learn more about our schools, support the development of our children, and earn some extra money. It’s extremely flexible work. You only pick up jobs on the days you’re interested and only in the buildings you wish to work. It can also be very rewarding to have a positive impact in the day of a child. If you think you may have interest in occasionally supporting our schools or now someone else who may, please look at the qualifications below and share them as needed.
Teacher qualifications – a person can secure a short-call substitute teaching license to serve as a daily substitute teacher with any four-year degree from an accredited university/college. If you have a four-year degree and are interested in subbing occasionally, district office staff can support you in connecting with the proper state office to submit paperwork. Call Jessica Loons at the district office between the hours of 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 879-6721 ext 6205. There is a small fee for background check and licensing application with the state.
Paraprofessional qualifications – a person interested in substituting as a paraprofessional needs to have completed 60 college credits or must pass a paraprofessional exam provided through the school district. The exam focuses primarily on reading and math skills. Interested subs need not pass the exam before applying. There is a small fee for a background check before being approved to substitute. Call Jessica Loons at the district office between the hours of 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 879-6721 ext 6205 in order to receive paperwork to apply as a paraprofessional substitute.
Increased reports of pertussis (whooping cough) have occurred throughout our community.
Pertussis can be a serious illness but may begin like a common cold.
Pertussis often starts with a runny nose, sneezing, and mild cough.
After 1 or 2 weeks, the cough worsens and can occur in sudden, uncontrollable bursts. These coughing attacks can end in vomiting and/or in a high-pitched whooping noise. The cough can continue for up to 3 months.
Pertussis can be less severe in adults and older children and when not recognized and treated, can be easily passed on to infants, who may become very ill.
Persons with pertussis should not go to school, work, or any activities until they have finished 5 days of antibiotic treatment, unless the person has already been coughing for 3 or more weeks. Although the cough can last a long time, a person is no longer contagious after the third week.
If you or a family member has a cough lasting seven days or more, especially if you've been in contact with someone diagnosed with pertussis, please consult your health care provider.
Most children have been vaccinated for pertussis, but protection can decrease over time. People who have completed some or all the recommended vaccinations for pertussis may still get pertussis disease but will generally have a milder illness.
A pertussis vaccine for adults and adolescents is available. Pertussis protection is combined with tetanus and diphtheria protection in both the DTaP and Tdap vaccine. Because protection from pertussis immunization can decrease over time, it is important for adults to receive a Tdap booster every 10 years.
Now is a good time to make sure you are up to date on your pertussis vaccines. Contact your Primary Care Provider or the MN Department of Health website on how to access vaccine records:
