We receive $500,000 in Title funding from the federal government and that provides additional math and reading interventions for students who need additional supports so that they are performing at grade level. We receive approximately $3,000,000 from Compensatory revenue which pays for approximately 30 teachers to keep our class sizes smaller. If we do not receive this funding, our class sizes would be much higher.

Our Purpose:

The Child Nutritional Program is dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals to the students in the Cloquet School District so they can learn and develop for their future.

How Meals are Planned:

All student meals must meet the federal guidelines for types and amounts of food offered.  Meals are planned with the goal of providing students with one-third of their Recommended Daily Allowances for key nutrients and calories.

In an effort to lessen student food waste, we work under a government-supported option termed "offer versus serve."  This means that students are offered all food items comprising a full lunch.  This includes the main entree, two fruits and/or vegetable servings, a bread/bread alternative, and milk.  They have the choice of a minimum of three food items although each student needs to take 1/2 cup of fruit or vegetable.  This is called a "reimbursable meal."

Changes:

In the past few years we have made changes to the menu including whole-grain pizza products and bread, baked not fried entree items, fat-free or reduced-calorie salad dressing, 100% juice products, skim or 1% milk, and emphasis on fresh fruit, salads, and vegetables.

Meal Accounts:

Cloquet School District joined the Minnesota Free School Meals Program starting with the 2023-2024 school year. All students get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each school day.

Educational Benefits:

Recently unemployed?  New baby in the house?  Struggling to make ends meet?

It is not too late to apply for educational benefits.  These applications are accepted at any time during the year.  Families may qualify for reduced fees if the total household income is within eligibility guidelines, or if a child receives MFIP or food stamps.  See link at top of this page.
