August 21, 2018
We are always excited to welcome back our returning students and all of our new 5th grade students to another new school year.
CMS Open House: 6-8th grade, 9 am - 5 pm; 5th grade, 12:15-5 pm
Your first chance to pick up your child's class schedule and meet their teachers is Thursday, August 30th.. When you arrive, you will want to first go to your child's homeroom advisor to get their schedule and fill out any needed paperwork. If you are unsure who your child’s homeroom teacher you may stop in the office and we will help you.
CMS Building Hours
CMS hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The building will be open to students starting at 8:10 a.m. daily and closed to students at 4:00 p.m. unless they are there for a school-sponsored activity.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Students can be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance off Washington Avenue. If they arrive before 8:10 a.m. they must wait in the playground area, not at the main door to the building. During student pick-up at 3:30 p.m. you are reminded to pull all the way forward and form two lines. Also, the parking spots closest to the building are always left open for visitor parking and to pull into at the end of the day as you wait for your child.
Late Student Check-In and Early Student Pick-Up
All exterior doors to the Cloquet Middle School will lock at 8:30 a.m. If your child is checking into the building late, they will have to enter through the office off Washington Avenue. If your student checks out early, we will have them wait in the CMS office; an adult will need to park and come into the office to pick them up. As an added security measure, we will be asking for an ID from any adults we do not readily recognize. Students are only released to people that are registered in our student management system unless authorized by a parent/guardian. If students leave school early for any reason, they should bring a note to the office before school starts to receive an early release pass.
Walkers Crossing Washington Avenue
We will start the year with crossing guards positioned on Washington Avenue at 18th Street, 20th Street, and Wilson Avenue. They will be there on school days from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. We highly recommend that students who need to cross Washington Avenue before school use the new paved path on the south side of Washington Avenue to walk to 20th street and cross. There is a four-way stop there coupled with a crossing guard from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. We also recommend crossing Washington Avenue at 20th Street for after-school walkers for the same reason.
Students will be allowed to bring personal technology to school if they choose; however, school policy requires that it remains locked in their locker. Students will be able to check their personal technology only during passing time and lunch. If you have an emergency and need to contact your child, we recommend you call the office at 218-879-3328.
iPad Acceptable Use Form and Insurance
All students in grades 6-8 will be issued an individual iPad at the beginning of the school year. Grade 5 students will house their iPads in their classroom. Grades 6-8 will receive their iPads the first week of school as long as their paperwork/payment has been submitted. You can either sign the forms and pay for the iPad insurance electronically on parent portal or print your own at www.isd94.org > Parents > Educational Technology Resources, or you can fill out the paperwork at the CMS open house on Thursday, August 30th.
5th Grade Orientation, Thursday, August 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Students will check in at the Gym Lobby (Door #1) between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) leaders will be there to greet them. A morning of fun activities have been planned, so please have your 5th grader wear comfortable clothing. Please note that orientation is for students only. 5th Grade staff will be assisting at orientation and will not be available to parents in the morning. After the orientation, there is an option to attend a group meeting in their homerooms at 12:15 p.m., at which time schedules and lockers will be available for you and your child. If you can’t make that, please feel free to come anytime after that up until 5 p.m.
The staff at Cloquet Middle School wishes you an enjoyable remainder of your summer vacation and we look forward to seeing you in September.
