  • Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Classes

    What happens in ECFE class?
    1. Parent and child interaction time: A licensed early childhood teacher & assistant provide developmentally appropriate activities for parents and children to enjoy together.
    2. Child time: A time devoted to learning through play and activities with licensed teachers and assistants while parents participate in a parent discussion in a separate room.
    3. Parent Time: Parents or caregivers participate in a discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Joys and challenges of parenting are shared and topic discussions are designed to address the developmental issues of each age group.

    Baby & You
    (Newborn to 9 mos. by Sept 1) 
    The first years of life are the most important in development. Learn ways to help your child grow. Support and information provided for the parent.
    Thursdays, 10:45 am - 12 pm

    Wonderful Ones

    (10 to 18 mos. by Sept 1.)
    Child’s play for the new and emerging walker. Provides opportunity to be with children of the same age. Parent/child and adult talk time. 
    Thursdays, 9 - 10:15 am
    $214.50/year or $26.81/month for 8 months

    Amazing Twos
    (19 to 29 mos. by Sept 1.)
    This age is filled with a driven sense of discovery. Puzzles, games, books, play dough, snack time and more. Parent/child and adult talk time.
    Section 1: Mondays, 11 am - 12:30 pm, starting Sept. 23, 2019
    Section 2: Wednesdays, 11 am - 12:30 pm, starting Sept. 25, 2019
    $214.50/year or $26.81/month for 8 months

    Mixed Ages Class
    (25 to 48 mos. by Sept 1.)
    Children (25 - 48 mos.) have snack, circle time, and school readiness skills.  
    Tuesdays, 5:30 - 7 pm
    $214.50/year or $26.81/month for 8 months

    Creative Kids
    (30+ mos Sept 1)
    Activities place emphasis on the development of this age child. Parent/child and adult talk time.
    Section 1: Mondays, 9 - 10:30 am
    Section 2: Wednesdays, 9 - 10:30 am

    Creative Kids Plus
    Children must attend regular Creative Kids (Mon. or Wed.) Gives creative kids an extra day to work on school readiness skills appropriate for their age. Child only participates - parents drop off and pick up.
    Fridays 9 - 10:30 am
    $120/year or $15/month for 8 months

    Me & My Guy
    (30 Months - Pre-Kindergarten by Sept. 1)
    Special time for boys and girls to bring their Dad, Grandpa or other "My Guy." Learn and have fun together!

    Grandparents Class
    (Birth - 5 years)
    Grandparents and grandchildren. Start class with activities done together. Last hour of class grandparents meet to share information and support. Join us for a grand time!
    Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11 am

    Sibling Care for all Ages
    A special place for siblings while you attend class with another child. Toys, crafts, reading and a quiet space. Snacks served. Bring diapers, blankets and bottles with child's name. $1/child per visit. 

    Registration for ECFE and Time for Tots classes can be done online (limited online, must pay full price), in the office, by phone or in person at the Early Childhood Office on a first come first serve basis.  Scholarships and Fee Waivers are available.  No one will be denied participation due to inability to pay.  

    Enrollment is limited to insure safe, productive environments. ECFE reserves the right to cancel any class with fewer than four parents enrolled. Time and dates are subject to change.  Any family living in the Cloquet area with a child between birth and enrollment in Kindergarten is welcome to attend.

    • Use your child's age as of September 1st when registering.
    • Classes fill fast.
    • Register your child for one class only and have your name placed on a waiting list for other classes.
    • Waiting lists are available for any filled classes.
    • Bring your immunization record to registration. We will make a copy. Minnesota law requires that children entering any Minnesota school must have up-to-date immunizations. Call your child's doctor with questions. 

    If school is cancelled, ECFE and Time for Tots classes are also cancelled. Cancellations announced on local radio and TV stations. 
    Weather Cancellation Policy:
    If Cloquet Schools are cancelled Community Education offerings are also cancelled. Cancellations due to bad weather will be announced on WKLK 96.5 FM, 1230 AM.
    In case of a 2 hour delayed start - ECFE and Time for Tots classes that normally start before 10 am are cancelled. Classes that are scheduled to start at 10 am or later that day will be held as normal.

    Student Family Support Center
    A comprehensive support program at Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College for students trying to balance the responsibilities or parenting family, and education. As part of the outreach effort, they also accept young parents in the community that are thinking of returning to school.  For more information click on the link above or contact:
